We see this all the time. Older homes in great neighborhoods with everything you want in a community – wonderful neighbors, convenient location, close to schools, shopping and more. But that amazing home with “great bones” is showing signs of wear and possibly costing you much more than it needs to in wasted monthly expenses.
As outdoor temperatures begin to cool, many homeowners in older residences are anticipating the escalation of their heating bills to compensate for chillier days and nights. Mounting energy costs are a key element in why many Timberlake Design/Build clients choose to renovate, making their homes not only more comfortable for their current lifestyle, but more energy efficient. Some of these homes may have had no change to their mechanical systems in over 20 years! Yikes!! That’s enough to put a chill in the air, just thinking about it! The fact is, older systems are significantly less efficient than units available today. And, let’s not forget the gaps and cracks in a foundation, walls, roof, doors, windows, and especially "holes" in the attic floor that can contribute to increased energy costs by allowing conditioned air to leak outside.
Need that sweater yet??
The reality is that newly constructed homes tend to be more efficient than older homes with respect to energy use, particularly as measured on a per square foot basis. Upgrading your older existing home to include more energy efficient features can save you money.
We’d be happy to come out and review how an energy efficient remodel can enhance your life, and your wallet! Give us a call – we’ll bring the hot chocolate!!

Changing seasons brings transitions of many kinds, not just in our natural environment, but in the way we shift how we spend our time both in and out of our homes. Certainly, as the weather gets colder, we’ll all be spending less free time outdoors. Your home is the heart of your life…what about it could be revised to bring you and those who share it with you more pleasure and comfort?
This time of year, with fewer daylight hours, you might start to notice those dark areas of your home that are uninviting and could benefit from some additional light. Maybe it’s that hallway in the middle of your home, or that small powder room off the foyer, or even your kitchen where a window over the sink would change your entire perspective!
Over the years, as we’ve completed projects and looked at before and after pictures with our clients, I’m always amazed at how the change of a home renovation can be such a positive influence on one’s life. If you’re thinking of changing your home environment, I hope you’ll consider Timberlake Design/Build. Our approach and process makes it easier on everyone involved. And our “on time, on budget, with care” pledge means you get the absolute best service and commitment to excellence in the market!
Change can be a wonderful thing. Timberlake Design/Build wants to help you embrace the many positive outcomes that can come from making changes to your home. Happy Fall and Happy Thanksgiving!

Timberlake added a full 2nd floor 1,000 square foot addition to this original single story Annapolis cottage built in 1949 effectively doubling the size of the house. Completing the overall architectural look and feel of the house the addition added 3 new bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry room, and a 4x12 master bedroom cantilevered balcony. As always, Timberlake delivered this extensive renovation on time, on budget, with care. Working under tight time constraints with the owners move-in date set hard and fast, Timberlake was able to complete the work ahead of schedule despite challenging site constraints and a very rainy spring.
Timberlake previously completed an extensive kitchen renovation at the same house which received an Award of Excellence from the Home Builder’s Association of Maryland.

Jeff Devlin of the HGTV series I Hate My Bath paid a visit to Timberlake's booth at the recent Howard County House and Home Show in Clarksville, MD this past weekend.
Jeff was quite impressed after looking at the transformations we have been able to achieve for our homeowners to make their bathrooms a wonderful place to escape from reality if only for a few moments each day.
